Mrs. Brozyna - Grade 4
Instructor: Mrs. Brozyna
Spring Update

This time of year is very exciting and very busy! á

April was the start of our wonderful Poetry unit. áThis is always a big hit with each and every student! áThe unit will culminate at the end of May with a Poetry Slam on May 25th. áIn addition to the slam, every student is entered into a national poetry contest, will compile their very own poetry book, and record podcasts. áI love reading their poetry, and I guarantee you will too!

We are also learning about government and will visit the NJ Statehouse in Trenton on May 22nd. áWhile in Trenton, we will also receive a tour of the Old Barracks Museum. á

Other May events include the SDS Spelling Bee, Family Life, Science NJASK, Fun Day, and the Spring Concert! áJune brings the 4th Grade Electricity unit (always a crowd pleaser) and NJ Day. áWhew! á

Stay posted for end-of-year activities. á

4B students continue to record stickers for the total number of books read independently this year.á As of the middle of May, students have read over 148 books!!!á This is wonderful, however the total is actually much higher.á Our students are such avid readers, so engrossed in their books that they forget to get their certificates signed.á Please encourage your child to participate.á Although the ultimate goal is to read, which they clearly do, it is so much fun throughout the year to see the sticker chart grow!á

I invite you to please check in often to our classroom webpage. áI will utilize it as a type of newsletter to communicate what is taking place in the classroom and to announce where we are headed. áThis is also where you can find Announcements, helpful Links, the Calendar, our Blog, and Homework. á

Please note that the posting of homework is a new initiative begun last school year. áIt is intended to help you, as parents, help your children at home. Students are still required to copy the daily homework into their agenda each morning. Fourth grade teachers will post homework under Announcements. áIt will be updated weekly. áAs stated below, it is always best to refer first to the student agenda as daily homework may change to meet the needs of the students. áFor example, the teacher may determine a need to reteach a concept in class effecting the previously planned homework.á In addition, specific Math homework will not be posted as students change classes for Math.á Typically, the homework corresponds to the Topic and Lesson covered in class that day.
á

Throughout the school year, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. áI believe communication between home and school is paramount to student success. áUse either my school email address (diane.brozyna@hanovertwpschools.org or diane.brozyna@htboe.org) or send in a written note. áI will respond as soon as possible. áOf course, you can always
call the school office to leave a message. áAgain, I will return the call promptly.

In closing, as I stumble upon new resources that can be used at home as well as in school, I will pass them along to you. áThree such websites are NEWSELA, Front RowáMath/ELA, and 4th Grade Phonics. áYour children will sign on to the first two often in school. They can use their google ids to sign on at home, too. The third is a free downloadable app for the iPad. áAll contain current content, interesting graphics, and are just plain fun!

Looking forward to a great school year,á

Mrs. Brozyna

I will assess the need to revisit concepts daily and will be available for extra math help as needed.
